The moon brings the woman to the man

I step out the escape hatch

like a ghost into the fog

that stretches its wings

from the bay

all the way into Oakland,

tottering on damp slick streets.

The Hawk is chilling

to the marrow.

Somewhere out there

is the beast

and he’s hungry tonight.

An imaginary place,

dystopian, retrograde,

where we feel too much,

fall in love with the wrong people,

break our hearts

and all too soon, die.

The full moon is

close enough to touch.

The old men sing;

la luna porta la donna all’uomo.

Street fighters gather in the alcoves.
